Free attorney service for persons age 60 or over, with priority given to minority and low-income persons.

Description:

Provides free attorney service to persons age 60 or over, with priority given to disadvantaged and low-income persons. Assists with legal problems in such areas as government benefits (social security, supplemental security income (SSI), Medi-Cal, In-Home Supportive Sevices (IHSS), Cash Assistance Program for Immigrants (CAPI), general assistance (GA), and the food stamp program), health, housing (including landlord/tenant issues) and consumer protection and debt collection. Provides legal assistance to remedy or prevent elder abuse, including emotional, physical and financial abuse. Will send an attorney or legal assistant to homebound persons. Efforts will be made to see a person immediately in an emergency.
