Description:

A society composed of descendants of Spanish settlers of California prior to 1848 that works to preserve the heritage of Hispanic Alta California. Activities include collecting the genealogy and religious, military, social and cultural history of Alta California during the Spanish and Mexican periods, in oral, written and pictorial form. Anyone wishing to join must submit a lineage chart that shows that person to be a descendant of a Hispanic person or persons who arrived in California prior to February 2, 1848. Quarterly meetings are held at various cities throughout the state. The Traveling Genealogy Library is available for use by the public for a nominal fee at these meetings.
