Adult Learning
San Mateo County Libraries
Description:
SMCL offers a literacy program to all English-speaking adults, age 18 or over, living in San Mateo County, who have a desire to learn to improve their reading and writing skills at one of our 13 library locations. Adults in the program achieve personal goals such as reading a book for the first time, getting a job, sharing a book with a child, reading a medicine label, volunteering in the community, gaining citizenship, and voting. Learners are assigned an individual tutor-volunteer who has received 10 hours of instruction in teaching basic reading and writing. The tutor and student meet two hours a week at the library or another site in the community. New volunteer tutors are always welcome!Location
